About Fraxel® Laser Skin Treatments

Fraxel® Laser treatments are more popular and best for younger patients as they tend to have less skin damage from sun exposure or minimal acne scarring. For our older patients Fraxel® Dual treatments work best because they are more powerful.

Fraxel® DUAL is a non-ablative fractional laser used to create microscopic channels from the uppermost (epidermis) to the deepest (dermis) layers of the skin. The treatment stimulates the body’s natural healing process which causes healthy tissue to grow and multiply while the old tissue exits through the epidermis resulting in fresh, glowing, healthy skin. The Fraxel® laser only treats a “fraction” of tissue at a time and leaves the surrounding tissue intact to promote rapid healing.

As a fractional laser that encompasses two different wavelengths in one machine, this versatility means the Fraxel® laser’s level of penetration can be customized to address different skin conditions. The 1550nm wavelength is a deeper, more aggressive setting targeting the lower dermis level which improves texture such as scarring and wrinkles. The 1927nm wavelength treats the skin’s superficial epidermis layer to address pigmentation and discolouration.

Fraxel® DUAL is proven to help with fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, acne, and scarring. Areas that can be treated covers most of the body and includes the face, eyes, neck, chest, abdomen and hands.

Being physician-led, Anti-Aging Medical & Laser Clinic has developed advanced protocols for different applications of Fraxel® laser treatments. Book a consultation and speak to us about your skin concerns so we can customize a treatment plan for the best possible results.

Fraxel® Laser FAQs

Is it Fractional Laser Resurfacing or Fraxel® Laser?

Fraxel® Laser is a fractional laser, which resurfaces a fraction of an area of skin.

How does a Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 treatment work?

Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 laser treatment targets aging and sun-damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into your skin to expedite your body’s remodeling of collagen. And since the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, it leaves the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes very rapid healing. Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 treatment resurfaces your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.

What precautions should I take after a Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 treatment?

Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, avoid direct sun exposure for at least 3 months after your last treatment, and wear a wide-brimmed hat when you’re in the sun.

How long do the positive effects of a Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 treatment last?

It depends on your particular condition and how you care for your skin. Once your skin is treated, continue to protect it as described above. Your physician will give you specific advice based on your individual needs.

Does a Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 treatment hurt?

Most patients describe an increased sensation of heat during the treatment. To minimize discomfort, topical anesthesia is applied before the procedure and cold air is used on the treatment area during the procedure. After the treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn, which usually diminishes in 1 to 3 hours.

How many Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 treatments will I need and how will they be spaced?

Clinical studies suggest that on average, an effective treatment regimen is 3 to 5 sessions spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart. Depending on your condition and schedule, you and the physician may choose to space treatment sessions further apart. Results are immediate and progressive, with optimal improvement usually visible in 2 to 3 months. This time frame and treatment structure allow for healing and the production of new collagen to replace damaged tissue.

How are Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 treatments performed?

First, your skin will be cleansed. Then, about 60 minutes prior to treatment, a topical anesthetic ointment will be applied to the treatment area. The Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 procedure takes 20- to 25 minutes for a full face.

What FDA clearances has Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 treatment received?

  • Wrinkles around the eyes (periorbital wrinkles)
  • Acne scars
  • Surgical scars
  • Age spots/sunspots (pigmented lesions)
  • Melasma (irregular patches of brown skin on the forehead, cheek, upper lip and nose)
  • Actinic Keratoses (skin condition)
  • Skin resurfacing

What are the benefits of Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 treatments?

The benefits are:

  • Smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin
  • Improved tone and texture
  • Reduction of unwanted brown spots
  • Reduced fine line and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Improved appearance of acne scars and surgical scars

How much does a Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 treatment cost?

Treatment pricing will vary depending on individual skin conditions and desired clinical outcomes. We recommend at least 3 treatments to start.

What is the difference between Fraxel® DUAL Laser and CO2 Fraxel Laser?

Fraxel® DUAL is a non-ablative (no open wounds) fractional laser which leaves the outer layer of the skin undamaged and treats only a fraction of the skin each time. This allows for much faster healing and minimal recovery time (less than 5 days) but does require more sessions.

CO2 laser resurfacing treatments are ablative and use carbon dioxide to evaporate the outer layers of the skin where skin damage tends to show. One session is needed for CO2 laser resurfacing but it requires a much longer downtime for a full recovery (up to 21 days).

At this time Anti-Aging Medical and Laser Clinic only offers non-ablative laser treatments.

What is the difference between Fraxel® DUAL Laser and HALO Laser?

Fraxel® Dual Laser is a non-ablative fractional laser which creates microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into the skin to facilitate collagen growth. Using two wavelengths, 1927nm treats the skin’s top epidermis layer to address pigmentation and discoloration concerns. The 1550nm targets the skin’s lower dermis level to improve skin texture such as scarring and wrinkles.

HALO laser treatments use a hybrid fractional laser that are set at non-ablative (1470nm) and ablative (2940nm) wavelengths. These wavelengths can be delivered in the same pass or can be independently turned on or off depending on the treatment.
